Marc Jacobs
Marc Jacobs is an American fashion designer(b.1963 in NY). His career begun in 1981, after he was granted a degree at the High school of Art and Design. Immediately after finishing this school, he continued to study at the Parsons School of Design in NY,which turned to be a lucky step, for he was there (in 1984)awarded the Perry Ellis Gold Thimble Award, the Chester Weinberg Gold Thimble Award and the Design Student of the Year Award. During his studies at Parsons, he fashioned his first series of hand-made sweaters, which was – in fact – a commision for Reuben Thomas, Inc.(the Sketchbook label). The same year -in 1984- Jacobs conjoined with Robert Duffy (Jacobs Duffy Designs Inc. – this company remains prosperous till today). Being supported by Kashiyama USA, Inc., in 1986 he attempted to conceive his premier colection with the Marc Jacobs trade mark. A year later, Jacobs was appreciated as the youngest designer ever granted The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Perry Ellis Award for New Fashion Talent, which is something like the “Nobel Price“ in the world of fashion industry. In 1989 Jacobs and begun to cooperate with Perry Ellis, Marc being the vice-president and Robert being the president of the merger. Marc?s was in charge not only of ladies designs, but also of the design of the numerous women's licensees. In 1992, Marc has been awarded by The Council of Fashion Designers of America again: from this time he was labelled as The Women's Designer of the Year. After graduating at the Parsons School of Design, Jacobs appeared in the spotlight of the fashion industry due to his "grime" collection for Perry Ellis, which led to his instant sack. Nowadays, Jacobs is, since 1997, employed as the artistic manager for Louis Vuitton - there he has initiated such outstanding cooperations as Stephen Sprouse?s graffiti pouches, Takashi Murakami?s accesories in pastel colors or the first ready-to-wear series sold under the Louis Vuitton official approval. Exceptionally well-received are also Jacobs? own clothing collections - Marc Jacobs and the relatively cheap diffusion series Marc By Marc Jacobs (2002). The reputation of Marc Jacobs is based on his approach to fashion – he refuses to comply with the up-to-date fashion styles. That is why in Spring 2004/2005, when all designers almost slavishly followed the "safari theme", he presented the entirely lady-like collection and on the catwalk there were about 450 thousand roses. Jacobs' Fall 2005 collection met with ambiquous response from the critics. In 2006, he is expected to present a watch collection under the Marc Jacobs trademark. The design of these timepieces is longing for being both traditional and “eternal“, but nevertheless excellent. One may obtain his designs in many sites in the world.
