Giorgio Armani

Giorgio Armani (born 11 July1934) one of the most celebrated Italian fashion designer, is particularly noted for his menswear.

Biography

ARMANI was born on July 11, 1934, in Piacenza.

He attended medical school and was trained in science. Following his military service, he worked in a large aand prestigious department store, La Rinascente, as a window dresser. He joined, without any formal training, very well-known fashion house Nino Cerruti as a designer from 1961 to 1970. He did leave to pursue freelance work. In 1974 Armani and Galeotti started their own company. Together with Sergio Galeotti, he founded Giorrgio Armany S.p.A. and created his own label of women's and men's ready-to-wear clothing.

Today he is known for his clean, elegant lines. In 1980, when Richard Gere perfected his urban peacock routine in American Gigolo, he did it dressed in Armani, and the designer's affair with Hollywood began.. Armani also invited Hollywood stars for wearing his fashion designs at the Academy Awards, winning devotees such as Jodie Foster and Michelle Pfeiffer.

Also his sister Rosanna Armani became interested in a fashion and joined him in the company. In 1985Galeotti died.

Giorgio is noted for building a mansion in the Caribbean Island of Antigua.

In 1996, Armani was one of some fashion designers convicted of corruption.

In 2001, Forbes magazine declared Giorgio Armani to be the most successful designer out of Italy, estimating his net worth at $1.7 billion.

In 2002, he became a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

In 2005, Armani was called Best-dressed Environmentalist by the Sustainable Style Foundation. In 2005 he was in the Vogue Magazine. He was allowed to be the sexiest man in the world in 2005.

In 2006, he designed the ceremonial Italian flag-bearers' outfits at the 2006 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony in Turin, Italy.

The 2006 Spring and Fall ranges of Emporio Armani & Armani Jeans were launched together.
