Christian Dior Christian Dior January 21, 1905 – October 24, 1957), prestigious Frenchfashion designer, was born in Granville, Manche, Normandy, France. Early life Dior was inheritor to a fertilizer fortune. He was a student of Catholic school. In 1946 he established his main house with the supporting of textile magnate. He was as much businesslike that to twelve years he expanded his own business to 15 countries. The number of his employees is also huge. It presents over 2,000 people. The New Look Between founding the fashion house of ‘Christian Dior” in 1946 and his death in 1957 fashion designer extraordinaire, Christian Dior, gave the fashion world the new look. He created the extremely popular "New Look" for his first collection in 1947, which featured rounded shoulders, a cinched waist, and a very full skirt. His designs depicted consistent classic elegance, stressing the feminine look. Dior made an opulent clothing style which contrasted the severe living conditions of post-war France. Together with his partner Jaques Rouet, Dior was the pioneer for license agreements in the business of fashion. In 1953 Dior hired Yves Saint-Laurent as his assistant and was also predetermined to be successor of him. But there has come new situation when Yves Saint-Laurent was called for military duty in 1960; consequently he was unwillingly forced to leave. After trouble with his temporal replacement, Saint-Laurent opened his own maison de couture once his military obligations were over. Personal life To the end of Dior’s life he became not very well, his dependence on injections for waking up in the morning also injections for appetite, and by the time injections for sleeping. His niece, Francoise Dior, was a daughter of his brother, Raymond. She became his favorite one. At her marriage with Count Robert-Henri de Caumont la Force it was just Christian Dior who gave the bride away at the ceremony while his brother, Raymond, was drinking in a local bar. By the time the relation with his niece became too bad, just because of her sympathies with Nazism. She openly faulted Dior's Jewish manageress and also young men from conspiracy against her uncle. According to French inheritance law, because Dior had no other lived relatives, Raymond should have been his successor, but after quarrels with him and his daughter, Dior took decision to disinherit all his close family totally. After Dior's death, Yves Saint Laurent , has became art director of his Dior's couture house and saved it from come-down. Dior's salons had been opened in 24 countries. The Dior firm successively continued in tendency to be a fashion leader. It was consorted with a very wider range of merchandise, including menswear, household linens, and such fragrances as Diorissimo, Miss Dior, Diorama and Diorling. Menswear Dior Homme/Monsieur Christian Dior's menswear division, Dior Monsieur, was discontinued in the late 1990s by Christian Dior SA to make way for the Dior Homme line, designed by Hedi Slimane. Slimane is commonly credited with establishing the slim, waifish silhouette in male fashion. Parfums Christian Dior is the fragrance and cosmetics division of Christian Dior, created in 1947 with the launch of Miss Dior.
