Balenciaga
Balenciaga is a Spanish fashion house established by Cristobal Balenciaga, a designer born in the Basque Country. Recently, he was referred by Christian Dior as "the master of us all" and introduced couture shapes for the women's collections.
The trademarks of his house are the bubble skirts and odd, feminine, yet ultra-modern shapes.
The first boutique opened in 1914 by Cristóbal Balenciaga was located in San Sebastián, Spain. Since then it expanded to include branches in Barcelona and Madrid. His designs were admired by the Spanish royal family and the Spanish aristocracy. After the Spanish Civil War forced him to close his boutiques, Cristóbal Balenciaga moved to Paris. Today, the fashion house is run by Nicola Ghesquiere.
